Recently I had a conversation with a friend about my job title. He said because I do mostly alterations that I must be an alterator? It’s a good word albeit newly created but it did make me think. Who am I or rather what am I?
A seamstress is somebody who is unskilled and just sews seams; dressmaker is one who makes clothes from scratch. A tailor is a person who alters garments to make them fit........so I must be a tailor? I always assumed tailors made suits!
Being an alterator does sound right even though the word doesn’t exist......yet! But I’ll go with tailor for now and see how many ask me to run them up a suit
